Core Credit Union are proud to sponsor Ella O’Donnell of the U16 Irish Women’s basketball team at the European Championships this summer.
The formation of the U16 Ireland women’s basketball takes place over a two-year long process, which started back in 2017 in conjunction with the Basketball Ireland regional basketball academies. Initially after trials, 28 players were selected; coming from all over Ireland. Gradually the initial squad was dwindled down to 12 players, who will be selected to represent their country at the U16 European championships in Sofia Bulgaria, from 15th – 24th August 2019.
The Irish basketball programmes are for the majority self-funded, which means most costs are paid by parents and team fundraising. Therefore, any help that the parents/team get is greatly appreciated. In addition to this all staff members are volunteers and are not paid for their time/work with the team.
As the European Championships are now three months away; game preparation is crucial. Therefore, the team needs to travel abroad to play other countries to obtain adequate game experience. Consequently, the cost is high and sponsorship along with fundraising & donations are crucial to lessen the burden on parents and Core Credit Union are delighted to help Ella on her way.
Best of luck to Ella and the whole U16 Irish Women’s basketball team!
