The rain didn’t dampen spirits at the Core Credit Union dlr Community 5K last Saturday 5th October 2019. Core Credit Union, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership and a range of local agencies hosted the 11th year of this event in Kilbogget Park, Ballybrack. This annual event takes place during the Counties ‘Festival of Inclusion’ and is widely recognised as being all inclusive and bringing together families, friends and the entire community.
Families arrived early and took the chance to take part in our fun activities from 1pm to 2pm with Tug of War, Tag Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee and Calisthenics in the all weather pitch and playing pitches beside the club houses. At 2pm, An Leas Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Deirdre Donnelly, set off the starter gun and over 750 participants, walked, jogged, rolled and ran the two laps of Kilbogget Park.
All participants then received an event t-shirt, medal and piece of fruit once across the finish line.
The dlr Community 5K is organised by a range of local agencies and clubs who are delighted to once again have our local Core Credit Union as title sponsor. Funding support is also provided by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the HSE Health Promotion Unit. The Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Volunteer Corp, Community Gardai and Dublin Civil Defence also assisted to ensure a safe and fun event.
Shane Mc Ardle, dlr Sports Partnership Coordinator, commented, ‘We weren’t blessed with good weather this year but we were delighted with the turn out. So many families braved the elements, showing that this community is fully aware of the fun and benefits of activity and invested in passing this down through the generations’.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and thanks to all our volunteers who help make this event such a success year after year!
