On the 19th of December 2012, The Credit Union and Co-Operation with Overseas Regulators Act 2012, introduced significant changes in how Credit Unions are required to operate.
Faced with these changes, Members of the Boards of Dalkey Credit Union Ltd., Sallynoggin / Glenageary Credit Union Ltd. and Shankill, Ballybrack & District Credit Union Ltd. met to discuss the merits of joining together in order to implement the changes required by the Act and to ensure the continued success of the 3 Credit Unions into the future.
The discussions led to a point where an amalgamation of the three Credit Unions took place on the 19th September 2014 and Core Credit Union Ltd. was formed.
Over the course of the next 2 years, Glasthule – Dún Laoghaire District Credit Union Ltd. joined Core Credit Ltd. on the 22nd July 2015, Carrickbrennan Credit Union joined Core Credit Union on the 22nd April 2016 and Foxrock & District Credit Union joined Core Credit Union on the 6th May 2016. Core Credit Union now has 35,000 Members and 40 local employees.
Members of Core Credit Union have access to their accounts 6 days a week in 5 office locations and 24/7 online.
